This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Weimar.
The cultural heritage of Weimar includes the dominant cultural and literary movement, Weimar Classicism of Wieland, Goethe, Herder, and Schiller; the Bauhaus; and the establishment of the first republic on German soil, the Weimar Republic, in the early twentieth century.
The Classical Weimar, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the late twentieth century, includes Goethe's house, Schiller's house, the Herder venues, the Weimar City Castle, the Wittumspalais, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library, the Park on the Ilm with the Roman House, the Palace and Park Belvedere Orangery, the Palace and Park Ettersburg, the Palace and Park Tiefurt and the Historical Cemetery of Weimar with the royal crypt. Other monuments worth your attention are the Liszt House Museum Weimar, dedicated to the famous composer, and the Monument of Goethe and Schiller.
In the early twentieth century, the Weimar Republic was established in Weimar in the German National Theatre and the Republic existed for about fourteen years in the time between the world wars. The German National Theatre has become a major attraction, but it still serves its initial purpose as well. In fact, Weimar has been a cultural center for the last two-and-a-half centuries, and even today, it continues to contribute to world culture.
It can be expected that a city with such rich cultural heritage and that attracts many tourists would offer many accommodation options to its visitors, but hostels in Weimar are scarce. Weimar hostels that do exist have good conditions and are located in the very center of the city, allowing access to the main attractions on foot; Weimar hostels have prices that are quite low for Germany. All that makes it very hard to book a hostel in Weimar, especially if you are trying to book when there are a few bigger groups coming to visit the city. So, booking your Weimar hostel in advance can save you a lot of trouble.
