This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Budva.
Budva, a city in the coastal area of Montenegro, is the main touristic place of the country. Budva is well-known for loud bars, crowded nightlife, and a lot of fun. During the day, there are a few sandy beaches that are worth a visit for relaxing or just getting you prepared for another wild night.
To relax and enjoy the sun in summertime, there is no better place than the beaches -- the main beach is a short walk from the old town; there are a few more nice beaches in the small towns surrounding Budva. If you have a car, you shouldn't miss them, but be prepared for some heavy traffic jams on the way back. Also, carry a lot of water because in summer sometimes there are shortages and like everywhere, isolated places make prices to go up.
The atmosphere around the city invites you to get into the Mediterranean way of life -- relax during the day, sunbathing, eating well with a couple of friends (Mediterranean food is something you need to try!), and partying all night long.
If you're looking for more than beaches and good nightlife, you'll find some evidence of the past and history of the city. The old town is full of stories about its shape -- it's a sand isthmus; there are a few churches, and most of all, don't miss the walls of the old town that are one of the main tourist attractions. The disorganization of the streets and houses leads you to beautiful corners surrounded by old windows and balconies.
Once tourism is one of the main activities, and backpackers are starting to came in large numbers, the number of hostels in Budva is increasing without lowering the quality -- you should expect good conditions in Budva's hostels (you have just to be patient when there are water shortages). Don't expect to meet a lot of people in the hostels, because all the action will be happening in the beach and bars.
