Heymondo’s Refund Process Explained

Ok, let's talk about the buffalo in the room: the annoying refund process with a travel insurance. No one likes dealing with insurance claims, but Heymondo makes it as painless as possible. There are two main scenarios where you might need to file a claim, and both are handled smoothly through their app.

1. Backpacker getting medical help

Visiting a Doctor abroad. If you fall ill or get injured and need to see a doctor while traveling, Heymondo’s got you covered with no upfront payments. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Use the Heymondo App to file your claim and follow the step-by-step instructions.
2. Heymondo will provide details of a trusted doctor or medical facility for you to visit. During your visit, make sure to get a detailed medical report from the doctor. This is key! Do not skip this step.
3. Upload the medical report and any relevant documents (boarding passes, receipts for medication, etc.) through the app. They might also ask you to send the documents via email.

Heymondo handles the payment directly with the doctor, so you don’t have to worry about out-of-pocket expenses. Quick, easy, and stress-free!

2. Lost Luggage claim process

Lost luggage can throw a wrench in your travel plans, but Heymondo makes sure you’re not left stranded. Here’s how to get reimbursed for essentials when your luggage gets lost or delayed:

1. Buy the necessary items you need (clothes, toiletries, etc.) to get through the delay. Be aware there is a maximum amount — specified in your policy. For us, it was 200€ last time we checked.
2. Keep all receipts for these purchases.
3. Get a report from the airline confirming your luggage is delayed or lost.(Make sure you do this before leaving the airport or transport facility!)
4. Upload the documents: receipts and the airline report to the Heymondo app along with your claim.

The Heymondo team will process your refund. To get the money back in your account, it often takes a couple of weeks. Our luggage got lost on our way back from Toronto over Zurich to Rome. The refund took around 11 working days.
