Essentials to know about Hostels in Paris
Here are some important aspects to consider when choosing a hostel in Paris:
Location: Paris is divided into 20 districts, or “arrondissements”, arranged in a clockwise spiral. The closer to the center (1st-8th arrondissements), the closer you are to major attractions like the Louvre, Notre-Dame, and Eiffel Tower.
However, outer districts like Montmartre (18th) or the Latin Quarter (5th) have their own unique charm and might provide a more authentic Parisian experience.
Cost: Paris can be pricey, and while hostels are a budget-friendly option, prices can still vary considerably. Some hostels may charge extra for amenities like towels or breakfast. Be sure to factor in these potential extra costs when budgeting your trip.
Facilities: Parisian hostels range from basic dormitories to boutique-style accommodations with private rooms. Consider what's important to you, whether it's free Wi-Fi, communal kitchens, en-suite bathrooms, or secure lockers.
Community & Events: Many hostels in Paris host social events like pub crawls, group dinners, or city tours. These are great opportunities to meet fellow travelers and explore the city in a more structured way.
Safety: Paris is generally a safe city, but like any major urban area, it has its share of petty crime. Look for hostels with 24/7 reception and secure lockers.
Language: While English is commonly spoken in Paris, particularly in the hospitality industry, knowing a bit of basic French can enhance your experience and interactions with locals.
Remember, your hostel can significantly shape your Parisian adventure. So, take the time to research and find a place that matches your style, preferences, and budget.
