Caravan Hostel Dc Reviews

Location and Contact

Location

• The Caravan Hostel DC is located at 2311 18th Street NW at the intersection of 18th St NW in Adams Morgan.
• In general, the easiest and most affordable ways to travel around DC are by foot, bike, or public transit. If you're planning to use public transit regularly, we suggest buying a SmartTrip card to take advantage of lower fares and reduced-rate transfers. You can buy the cards at any MetroRail station, and load it at select pharmacies and supermarkets in the area. Iphones and Androids also offer the option to download the Smartrip App or use your apple or google wallets.
• Bus and metro service intervals change depending on the time of day. For the most accurate travel times and best routes, we recommend using WMATA's website and use the Trip Planner Function: http://www.wmata.com/
• Getting Around By Bus:
• There are several bus lines that pass close to the hostel:
• 90, 96, 42, 43, L2 and the DC Circulator
• By Metro/Subway:
• We are a reasonable walk to both the 'Dupont Circle' and 'Woodley Park-Zoo' stations on the Red Line and 'U-Street Cardoza' and 'Columbia Heights' on the Green Line.
• From Dupont Circle, walk east to 18th Street NW, then turn left and walk north up 18th St NW (and up the slight hill) towards Adams Morgan.
• Estimated walking time from metro stop: 15 minutes from Dupont Circle if carrying luggage.
• From the Woodley Park-Zoo station, the hostel is about a 15 minute walk away. When exiting the station, take a right down Connecticut Avenue. About a block down, take a left on Calvert St. and head straight. You will eventually cross a bridge. Keep heading straight. Calvert St. will curve and turn into 18th St. Keep heading straight down 18th.
• Taxi/Uber/Lyft:
• Tell your driver to take you to the Adams Morgan neighborhood. The address is 2311 18th Street NW.
• If you do not already have the apps, download them and input these special discount codes to get free ride credits.
• Discount Code for Uber: UberZeroDue
• Discount Code for Lyft: LYFT994
• (These codes only work if it is the first time you have used the app.)
• Bike:
• There is a DC Capital Bikeshare docking station at the corner of Belmont Rd. and Columbia Rd. There are a few others in the area as well. Capital Bikeshare offers 24-hour and 3-day rates, as well as longer-term rates. You can check a map of all the stations here: https://www.capitalbikeshare.com/
• Car Share: The DC area offers Car2Go carsharing. To learn more, please visit: https://www.car2go.com/en/washingtondc
• Parking: Please note that public parking around the hostel is limited to two hours and is metered. There is a parking garage 100 meters away from the hostel at 2421 18th St. that charges $20 - $25/day for covered parking.
• Alternatively, you could leave your car at one of four suburban Metro stations and take the train into the city (this option will be cheaper). Multi-day parking (also known as overnight or long-term parking) is available at four Metro stations in the DC-area: Franconia-Springfield, Greenbelt, Huntington, and Wiehle-Reston East. Each of these stations has between 15 and 17 spaces allocated for multi-day use of up to 10 days. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Check WMATA's website for daily rates.
• Directions:
• From Union Station (Amtrak, MARC train, BoltBus, Megabus, Greyhound, etc.):
• ~15 - 25 minutes driving/by taxi depending on traffic
• ~35 minutes by metro or bus depending on traffic
• ~30 minutes by bike
• Taxis will cost around $20 one-way from the station (this is an estimate based on normal traffic. Please be aware that it could cost even more if there is heavy traffic).
• Public Transit: The 96 bus towards Tenleytown leaves approximately every 20 minutes from the corner of Massachusetts Ave. and Columbus Circle. When you walk out of the front entrance of Union Station, take a left to reach the bus stop. Board the bus headed towards Tenleytown. Get off at the 18th St./Belmont Rd. stop and we're just a minute up the street. Bus fare is $2.00. *Be sure to check the schedule on WMATA's website as there may be reduced hours on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
• By metro, take the Red Line from Union Station in the direction of Shady Grove. Get off at the Woodley Park-Zoo station the hostel is 15 minute walk away. When exiting the station, take a right down Connecticut Avenue. About a block down, take a left on Calvert St. You will eventually cross a bridge. Keep heading straight. Calvert St. will curve and turn into 18th St. Keep heading straight down 18th and we are at the corner of 18th and Belmont.
• Alternatively, you can use a combination of the metro/bus if you prefer less walking. Check WMATA for the best travel times.
• From DC Reagan National Airport (DCA):
• ~20 - 25 minutes driving/by taxi depending on traffic
• ~40 - 45 minutes by metro and bus
• ~40 minutes by bike (not recommended, but possible!)
• Taxis will cost around $30 one-way from DCA (this is an estimate based on normal traffic. Please be aware that it could cost even more if there is heavy traffic). Alternatively, you can take a shared van service (SuperShuttle) which costs about $15 one-way for one passenger, $10 per passenger after that. Ticket counters are located in the baggage claim areas in Terminal A (near Door 1), Terminal B (near door 4, on the lower level), or Terminal C (near door 9, on the lower level). Note that shared vans will take longer than taxis as they will be dropping off additional passengers.
• By Metro/Bus: The Blue and Yellow lines have a stop directly in front of the airport. Your best public transit option will be to take the metro and then transfer to one of the several buses that pass by the hostel. We have listed two suggestions below. Depending on schedules, different combinations might be more effective. Be sure to check WMATA's website for the best routes/times.
• For the Yellow Line, take the Greenbelt train and get off at the U St. station. From there, you can take the 96 bus towards Tenleytown. Get off at the 18th St. and Belmont Rd. stop and the hostel will be around the corner.
• For the Blue Line, take the Largo Town Center train and get off at the Farragut West station. From there, you can take the 42 or 43 bus towards Mt. Pleasant. Get off at the Columbia Rd/Mintwood Rd. stop. Exiting the bus, take a right and walk towards Metro K Supermarket. You'll then take a left onto Belmont Rd and the hostel will be on your right-hand side about two minutes down the road.
• By Bike: Not recommended, but possible. If you're traveling very, very light and feeling adventurous, there are Capital Bikeshare stations near the airport. There is a scenic bike route that will take you past some of the main monuments on the way to the hostel. This route is probably best for very seasoned cyclists as it is almost 6 miles/10km and will take close to 40 minutes (including some hills!). Check Google Maps to get the full route details.
• From Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD):
• ~40-50 minutes driving/by taxi depending on traffic
• ~1.25 - 1.5 hours by public transit
• Taxi: One-way from IAD to the hostel will cost about $50 - 80.
• Shared Van: SuperShuttle ticket counters are located on the lower level of the main terminal, down the ramps to doors 2 & 6. Cost is $29.00 one-way for the first passenger, an additional $10 per passenger after that. HighRoad Hostel has secured a 10% off discount code that our guests can use on SuperShuttle. To receive 10% off SuperShuttle, you must book online and use code ZMQ5F. The discount code only works for shared-ride van reservations, and only works for the first person in a multiple-person reservation. (Just to be clear, the hostel does not get any kickback if you use this discount code -- we just wanted to negotiate a discount and then pass that onto our guests to help save a few bucks.)
• By Metro/Bus: Take the Washington Silver Line Express Flyer Bus towards Wiehle-Reston East Station. The bus is $5 each way and you can purchase tickets at the counter located inside Arrival Door 4 in the Terminal, on the baggage claim level. The bus will drop you off at the end of the Silver Line. From Wiehle-Reston, take the silver line to Farragut West Metro Station. Take a right out of the station towards Farragut Square. At Farragut Square, you can take either the 42, 43, or L2 bus. Get off at Columbia Rd/Mintwood Rd. stop. Exiting the bus, take a right and walk towards Metro K Supermarket. You'll then take a left onto Belmont Rd and the hostel will be on your right-hand side about two minutes down the road.
• From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI):
• ~50-60 minutes driving/by taxi depending on traffic
• ~1.5 Hours by public transit
• Taxi: One-way from BWI will cost about $50 - 90.
• Shared Van: SuperShuttle ticket counters are located on the lower level baggage claim area; near door #2 (Southwest Airlines Terminal - Concourse A) or near door #9 (Concourse C). One-way is $37 for the first passenger.
• By Metro/Bus: At BWI Airport, take the free shuttle that runs approximately every 6 minutes (except between hours of 1AM - 5AM where service operates every 25 minutes) to BWI Train Station. From the station, purchase an Amtrak ticket ($16) or MARC train ($7) from a ticket agent or an electronic kiosk. The train will arrive at Union Station. From Union Station, take the 96 Bus towards Tenleytown. The 96 bus towards Tenleytown leaves approximately every 20 minutes from the corner of Massachusetts Ave. and Columbus Circle.
