Despite the fact that it has a varied, and interesting history, Glendalough International Youth Hostel is relatively large and modern, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. All rooms are en-suite and facilities include conference rooms, left-luggage room, laundry facilities, t.v., public telephone, internet usage,spacious dining facilities as well as a well equipped self-catering kitchen. Breakfast,lunch/packed lunch and evening meals are available on request. Additionally, the Hostel is wheelchair-friendly. We cater for all groups of all ages, whether they be families, backpackers, or walkers who are 'doing' the Wicklow Way. Not only do we provide information on the surrounding area, but feel free to ask us advice concerning your tour in Ireland. Additionally, we can make reservations to other An Oige hostels throughout the country.
The relaxed atmosphere complements the peaceful hostel grounds, which are extremely spacious and allow frequent glimpses of the valley. The Hostel is situated in an ideal location within the beautiful Glendalough valley. It is a perfect base not only for exploring the neighbouring Monastic City, but also the numerous trails, and paths that surround the Lake which lead into the Wicklow mountains.
We are situated 50 km from Dublin airport, approximately 40 km (just over 1 hour drive) from Dublin city, 2km from the quaint village of Laragh, where there are a number of services and facilities available and just a 5 minute walk from St.Kevins bus stop.
In peak times and during weekends, it is vital that you book ahead. There is no other hostel within the Glendalough area, and camping is forbidden within the national park. Additionally, one must remember that public transport is limited. Please check with the relevant transport companies (St. Kevins Bus Service, Bus Eireann etc.)when planning your trip. Should you wish to self cater, please note that there is no grocery facilities in the Glendalough area, however there are food stores in Laragh. Most importantly, there are no cash points in the Glendalough/Laragh area. The nearest banking facilities are in Rathdrum, which is approximately 15 km south of Glendalough.
