Goreme is a nice place, very laid back. I enjoyed most the walk through the Red Rose VAlley. the valley itself is great and you'll end up at the "Flintstone café", run by a friendly guy. the vies from there are marvellous. there is a church nearby which to my opinion tops the ones in the open air museum in Goreme: have a look. Keep on walking to the sunset point for more great hiking, the sunset pint is rather so so but it is easy to go back to Goreme on the road from there.

Our handwritten guide on Backpacking Cappadocia
Cappadocia is an area within Turkey's Central Anatolia region, famous for its unusual rock formations and cave houses and churches. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations within Turkey (after Istanbul). Cappadocia is made up of several valleys, including the Rose Valley, Pigeon Valley, and Red Valley. There are many hiking trails around Cappadocia, for all fitness levels; most are well sign-posted, however maps can be purchased from the tourist center. Mountain biking is also popular, however the roads are extremely hilly. Another popular tourist activity includes hot-air balloon rides, which operate for sunrise every morning; these can offer a spectacular view of the surrounding landscapes.
There are a number of accommodation options available, including luxury and budget hotels, pensions, campsites for tents and motor homes, and hostels in Cappadocia. The best options are the Cappadocia hostels, which usually include a complimentary Turkish breakfast (boiled egg, salad, bread, and jams), as well as hot-water showers, tourist information, and Wi-Fi. Some accommodation is a part of the cave buildings, which are generally quite cold, particularly in winter; however they offer a good opportunity to get a feel of what it's like to actually live in a cave house or building. Most hostels in Cappadocia are centrally located, and there are plenty of maps that include the names and location of all accommodation in the area. If traveling to Cappadocia in the peak season (July and August), it is recommended booking in advance, as places fill up quickly. The best times to visit are usually during spring and autumn.
