The site is reasonably well preserved and is a great way to spend an afternoon indulging in some history.
The glitzy beachside city of Sarandë is only fourteen kilometres away and is easily reachable by public bus. Sarandë is something of a tourist buzz word in Albania -- it's famed for its beach, eateries, and lifestyle. Sarandë is definitely worth checking out, however the real gem of southern Albania is undoubtedly Ksamil.
Ksamil is a tiny coastal town, whose beaches with their golden sand and clear turquoise waters draw in both national and international tourists. Ksamil embodies all the perfection of Mediterranean beaches and lifestyle minus the price tag. This sleepy town is the beachside getaway and a great place to enjoy a drink or two with friends. Ksamil has three tiny islands just metres from the shore; there is not much on these islands but they do have a swim up bar.
Getting to and from Ksamil is both cheap and simple. Public buses depart from Sarandë regularly and from Sarandë it is easy to get to other parts of the country.
Ksamil, Albania hostels and guesthouses are great -- they tend to be affordable and in good locations. Guesthouses in Ksamil are the cheaper accommodation option -- they tend to be close to the beach and in reasonable condition. There are some hostels in Ksamil, Albania, though they tend to be less-conveniently located. For more of a backpacker scene it's best to stay in Sarandë, where there are many hostels, with great facilities and an even better social scene.
