This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Neuquen.
Neuquen is the largest city of the Patagonia, with more than two hundred thirty thousand inhabitants. It is the capital of the Province of Neuquen and it is located in the north of the Argentinean Patagonia. From Buenos Aires, Neuquen can be reached by car, bus, or plane.
The name of the city, and the province, derives from the Neuquen River. Another important river in the region is the Limay River. Both rivers give rise to a larger one, the Black River (or RÃo Negro in Spanish). The presence of these rivers places the city of Neuquen within a valley, designated the "High Valley of RÃo Negro," an important agricultural region of the Patagonia. However, the plateau of the Patagonia is also evident in the region and it is possible to find areas with scarce vegetation, mainly composed of bushes.
Like any large city, the cultural activity is prevailing. Street shows and the visits to the Craftmen Fair can be enjoyed every weekend. In summer, water sports are popular, particularly in the resorts of the Limay River. Every year, fly fishing attracts many lovers of the activity to the region. Not too far from Neuquen, in the Valley of Dinosaurs, it is possible to visit the paleontological museum and take a look at the ancient tracks and the fossil deposits.
There are more than a dozen Neuquen hostels. Thus, the variety of choices for travelers and tourists is huge. In general, hostels in Neuquen are strategically located within the center of the city, with access to the main transportation systems. They offer Wi-Fi internet connection, common area with TV and library, four- to six-bed rooms and single rooms with private bathroom and kitchen equipped with all the necessary elements for cooking. Neuquen hostels outside the center of the city are also available and they offer transport service to the airport. Interestingly, not only tourists looking for adventure decide to stay in hostels in Neuquen; in this city, many travelers visiting the community for work also choose to spend time in hostels in Neuquen.
