We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Maroochydore.
About an hour north of Brisbane in the heart of the Sunshine Coast is Maroochydore. The area is home to some stunning golden sand beaches and there is much to see and do here (the beach is the number one attraction for most tourists). The town itself lies on an inlet of a river. and so while most of the hostels in Maroochydore are located along the beach area, there are some Maroochydore hostels that lie further along the inlet, which is something that you may want to research when booking your hostel. Also right on the mouth of the river is one of the most popular kite-flying regions. This used to be home to a large timbermill that shipped wood to Brisbane on a paddle steamer.
There are many tour companies within Maroochydore that offer a large number of different types of tours. You can do a variety of cruises up and down the river inlet or around the Sunshine Coast area. Maroochydore is also home to an amusement park, a giant shopping plaza that will house your every shopping need, and some great fishing -- it has a little something for everyone.
Further inland there is an abundance of national parkland to go exploring. There are some good hikes here with some great views. Just ask at your friendly Maroochydore hostel staff and they should be able to tell you how to get to them and point you in the right direction of any other attractions or amenities that you might need.
