This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Yeppoon.
Yeppoon is a small town on the Capricorn Coast -- Queensland -- in Australia. This place is only worth a stop if you are planning to go to the Keppel Islands, because it is really near the ferry. From here you will be able to get good views of the Keppel Islands. The best thing in Yeppoon will be the food; here the fresh fish is something of which the locals feel proud, and you will not be disappointed. The prices are also cheaper than those along the Australia's East Coast.
The town center is really small and quiet, but if you stop by, take a short walk and stop in a restaurant to have a beer or enjoy a nice meal. Near Yeppoon you can find Emu Park, with a nice, sandy beach and a bit further you will find Rockhampton, the nearest city, which is not very big; still Yeppoon is much nicer to spend some time or just to overnight.
Yeppoon is easily reachable by car or by bus from Rockhampton -– there are a few local buses. In town you will also find buses to Rosslyn Bay -- the place from where the ferry departs to Great Keppel Island. Forty-five kilometers away is the train and Rockhampton airport.
The hostels in Yeppoon have basic facilities and rooms, but if you just want to spend one night, it will be enough. The locals are nice and there aren't many tourists. Yeppoon hostels won't be the best spots to get to know a lot of travelers and backpackers, but you may get in touch with the locals and find the most interesting places around. Don't miss this opportunity. The hostels in Yeppoon will be quiet and good for relaxing a bit from the busy touristic places along Australia's East Coast.
