Looking for budget stays in Geraldton? This section is designed to save you time, money, and unnecessary stress. We've got insider tips to help you find affordable hostels and the cheapest places to stay in Geraldton.
Geraldton is a coastal town located in the midwest of the Australian state, Western Australia, just a few hours north of the state capital city, Perth. Geraldton is an historic town (in Australian terms), with a European influence, which can be seen the town’s cathedral and many of the buildings found within the town.
Geraldton’s beaches, like most found on the west coast of Australia, offer some great surfing opportunities, which unsurprisingly has lead to a rather large surfing and wind-surfing community. There are also opportunities to learn to dive; however, the PADI diving courses offered here are rather expensive, and can be found for cheaper in other cities in Australia. There is also a rather large fishing community, which has resulted in the establishment of many good seafood restaurants, which can be found along the waterfront. There are also many galleries displaying traditional Aboriginal art, and museums, which includes displays outlining the tragic shipwrecks that have occurred off the coast of Geraldton.
There are a few budget options, including Geraldton hostels or "backpackers," cheap hotels, and motels. Geraldton hostels usually offer dorm rooms, or private double rooms. A complimentary breakfast is usually included in the price, however this should be confirmed at time of booking. Some hostels in Geraldton also provide access to a communal, fully equipped kitchen. Most Geraldton hostels are located in a historic, colonial-style building, with modern facilities such as hot water showers. Not all Geraldton hostels provide twenty-four-hour reception, so if arriving early morning, or late in the evening, it is worth informing the hostel in advance of your arrival.
