One of the biggest landmarks in the area is Tongerlo Abbey. It is around two kilometre north of Westerlo Centrum. Originally, it was founded in the twelfth century. The abbey has had an eventful history including the confiscation of the abbey's property in the eighteenth century during the French occupation. Besides the beautiful architecture, you can also visit the local Leonardo Da Vince Museum, which is located at the same site. One of the highlights is the copy of the famous depiction of The Last Supper, showing the scene of Jesus with the Twelve Apostles when he said that one of them would betray him. Less arty is the nearby amusement park. Bobbejaanland, around fourteen kilometres north of Westerlo Centrum, offers a various range of thrilling attractions.
