This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Chongqing.
Chongqing is a nice place located in the Chongqing municipality, near Sichuan province, in the center of China. Chongqing is a place full of contrasts –- you can feel yourself in a well-developed city with all the great facilities, but you can also visit small ancient villages and learn a little bit more about the town's past and rich culture. You can easily reach this city by bus, train, and plane (the airport is twenty-five kilometers from the city center); all modes of transportation have daily connections to nearly anywhere in China and you can book your tickets in your hostel, travel agency, or directly in the train and bus stations.
Chongqing is well known among tourists as the departure place for the Three Gorges Cruise -- one of the most popular tours here, that should be on your to-do list). There are a lot of tour agencies for every taste and budget, and you only need to choose the date you want to go and make your booking.
This city has a lot to offer -- Luohan Si Temple, Chongqing Exhibition Gallery, Huguang Guild Hall, Ciqikou Ancient Town, Red Cliff Village, the Pipa Montain Park (after climbing, this is the biggest point on the Chongqing peninsula and gives you amazing panoramic landscapes), Stilwell Museum, and the cable cars tours to Yangzi River and Jialing River (there are amazing views from the rivers). There are also river cruises that depart before dark -- these are the best way to visit the city -- and it's probably the best time to see Chongqing city, when it's full of neon lights and amazing life.
There are not so many hostels in Chongqing, so it's better to make your booking in advance to assure vacancies, and better rates. The hostels in Chongqing are in a typical Chinese architecture, with great staff that will help you organize your trip.
