This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Lijiang.
Lijiang is a small town in the southwest of China in the Yunnan province. This is the house of the Naxi minority with a very interesting culture. Get to know a little bit more about it and you won't regret it.
Unfortunately, Lijiang is now on the tourist-route map, so sometimes the town can get a little bit crowded. You will have a lot to see and it's up to you to escape the crowds -- get up early and explore the town and its old streets. You will be able to find the old system of water canals and the pools where the drinkable water used to appear -- head for Baima Longtar to see a nice example of the pools. Don't miss the Old Market Square as it is the most symbolic place in town.
Another amazing place is the Black Dragon Pool Park in the north side of town. The views of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain are great; it's one of the most photographed sites in the Yunnan province. In the Black Dragon Pool Park, you can also find some exhibitions and a museum that explore the Naxi minority and can be good value for money if you are curious about these subjects.
The best and easiest way to get to Lijiang by bus –- the town has three bus stations -– connecting the town to all main cities and towns in the Yunnan province. There is also one airport just twenty-five kilometers away.
There are a few hostels in Lijiang, but plenty of accommodation. Lijinag's hostels are the cheapest option and can provide you average conditions and facilities, but you can always expect good cleaning conditions in almost every hostel. Lijiang's hostels are the best place to meet with other travelers and share some travel experiences.
