This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Litomysl.
Litomysl is a small town in Pardubice Region, Czech Republic, located around a hundred and thirty kilometers from Prague. First mentioned somewhere around the first century, Litomysl has gone through many important periods and has a lot of history to show. Although it's located somewhat off course, it is a fascinating little town with not too much tourist traffic.
The town is mainly known for its picturesque castle and as the birthplace of the famous composer Bedrich Smetana. The first one, simply known as Litomysl Castle, is a beautiful sixteenth century Renaissance chateau, located in the old town center. It is a well-preserved castle and the entrance fees are not expensive, so make sure to visit it during your stay. Right next door you will find another magnificent place -- the former Piaristic monastery and its beautiful gardens. And if you just take a short walk around the mentioned two buildings, you will come across many other historic sights, including the birth house of Bedrich Smetana, an outlook tower, and a museum from the fifteenth century called The Red Tower, Regional Museum, and the Dolls and Toys Museum.
Although the town is small, there are quite a few nice Litomysl hostel options -- some right in the old town, others just a short walk away. Pretty much everything worth seeing is within walking distance, so any Litomysl hostel you choose to stay in, is good as far as the location goes. Since most of the international tourists simply visit Prague, Litomysl is often overlooked -- which is a shame, because it has quite a lot to offer and is much more peaceful than other destinations of Czech Republic.
