This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Hannover.
Hannover hosts many very interesting events, some of which are unique and attract many German and international tourists and can drive up the prices at your Hannover hostel. Schützenfest Hannover is the world’s largest funfair for marksmen, with an almost five-hundred-year-old history and attracting more than ten thousand marksmen from the whole world. Hannover has also one of the largest Oktoberfest festivals in Germany -- you must try the local brands if you have the chance to be in the city in October (be sure to book your Hannover hostel well in advance in that case). Other important events are CeBIT (the largest computer expo in the world) and the Hanover Fair.
There are not many hostels in Hannover and their locations are not the best -- some Hannover hostels are located in the very outskirts of the city and you need to change public transportation two or more times to reach them despite the well-developed public transportation network. That can also take well over an hour. There are a few hostels in Hannover in the very central part of the city, but they are not very cheap. More remote hostels are generally cheaper than Hannover hostels in the center.
Most sights are located in the center -- some must-sees are the Neues Rathaus, the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, the Berggarten, the Hanover Zoo, the Kestner-Museum, Historic Museum, and the Altstadt with its Marktkirche.
Another not-so-well-known fact about Hannover is that the band the Scorpions is originally from Hannover -- this vibrant city always has something with which to surprise you. As there are many interesting events in the city, you should visit if you have the chance!
