Looking for budget stays in Leipzig? This section is designed to save you time, money, and unnecessary stress. We've got insider tips to help you find affordable hostels and the cheapest places to stay in Leipzig.
Leipzig is a vibrant cultural and university city in eastern Germany. The city is very young, thanks to the esteemed university and the huge stock of housing and buildings, making it affordable and leaving huge spaces for creative folks to literally fill. The city center has both very historic elements and all the elements of a shopping mall, making for a vibrant and exciting mix of new and old. For those on a budget there is plenty to do here with many sights and museums being free, and an array of beautiful public parks as well as establishments geared to the student crowd.
Leipzig hostels are easy to come by. You'll often find Germans here from other parts of the country as well as international travelers. If you want to go out and are interested in being among students look to stay around Karl-Liebknecht Street, south of city-center (most of Leipzig University is on the southern edge of the town center). Go further out to the neighborhood of Connewitz if you want to experience the alternative Leipzig, though due note the tram from here to the train station, located north of the town center takes over twenty minutes.
Getting to your Leipzig hostel shouldn't be a big deal, no matter what location you choose. There is an extensive tram system that converges on the ring around the city center and at the train station. To points well south of the city center (Connewitz) keep in mind that the journey may take a good half-hour once you account for wait-times between trams. If you're staying here though, you may well be more interested in DIY-venues and the little business here than spending as much time as possible in the city center or at glitzy bars and clubs.
