This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Pforzheim.
Pforzheim is a small- to medium-sized city in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany. It is situated between the state's capital, Stuttgart, and Karlsruhe. Like other cities in the region, Pforzheim has a very long history of settlements, thanks to the Elz River running through it. The population of the city, however, did not start rising dramatically until the late nineteenth century. Nowadays the city has around one hundred and twenty thousand residents and is nicknamed the "Goldstadt" (Golden City), because of its strong jewelry and watch industries.
The highlights of the city are Museum of Jewelry, St. Micahel's Castle Church, Wildpark Pforzheim, Technical Museum, Vehicle Museum, Corn Maze Eutingen, and Rabeneck Castle in the Dillweißenstein district. As the city is located at the northern edge of Black Forest, hiking and mountain biking are very popular, among many other outdoor activities. Pforzheim also holds various festivals throughout the year (especially popular is annual wine festivity OechsleFest) and a lovely Christmas market with beautiful decorations and outdoor ice skating area in December, so there is definitely something to do and see any time of the year.
Do not expect to find plenty of Pforzheim hostel choices, though. Check around the main train station if you plan on spending more time in the old town, otherwise you can find some quite pleasant dorms near the Pforzheim-Weißenstadt station too. What you are able to get is nothing above average or particularly cheap, but it will surely take care of your basic accommodation needs.
