Looking for budget stays in Tübingen? This section is designed to save you time, money, and unnecessary stress. We've got insider tips to help you find affordable hostels and the cheapest places to stay in Tübingen.
Tübingen, Germany is not your usual German city; its cultural and historical background is deeply different from other cities in Germany. It was lucky to be spared from bombing during WWII. In this beautiful university town, there is a jovial and friendly vibe, especially in the summer months, when the city is full of flowers and colors. The River Neckar (which is really not more than just a stream) flows silently through the city and creates a wonderful backdrop to the colors of this very hilly city.
It may not be easy to find a place to stay here, as Tübingen hotels are generally quite expensive in the downtown area; to find an inexpensive hostel you'll be a few miles outside the perimeter of the historic center of the city. The supermarkets and shops in the city are not expensive, however.
As a university town, the nightlife is pretty active (especially in school-time months when nonresident students are in town). University students come from all over the world to study in this small paradise, because of the famous and renowned university.
An absolute must-see is the very distinctive castle Schloss Hohentübingen, which offers great scenic views of the area. The city is one extremely green and environmentally friendly. Several bus lines (which can get quite expensive if you are not a student enrolled at the university) serve the area, and even remain active until late at night, especially on weekends -- so you won't have any problems getting around Tübingen and returning to your hostel.
