They are the nearest airports offering flights to many international and domestic destinations. Many low-cost airlines operate there, too. For example, Leipzig is around one hundred fifty kilometres away. Consider that it takes around two-and-a-half hours to get from Leipzig to Wernigerode by train. The train connections from Hannover are faster, around two hours, even if Hannover is further away.
