This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Santa Cruz La Laguna.
Santa Cruz La Laguna is a breathtaking, hidden paradise located on the shores of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. It's beautiful volcano views and beautiful water are the perfect setting to take a relaxing weekend away from the big city, a glimpse into the life of a Guatemalan villager, a delicious meal or a scuba diving trip in a volcanic, high altitude lake.
Santa Cruz is easily accessible by boats coming from Panajachel, San Pedro, or most other communities around the lake. These boats are inexpensive and run regularly throughout the day. Private boats can be charted if nighttime or early morning travel is required; there are no roads into Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz La Laguna hostels are all located on the waterfront next to the pier where the boats dock. The town is small and is located a short fifteen-minute walk up the hill. Although Santa Cruz is small, the town offers all amenities needed for a short visit or a longer stay. Santa Cruz is also the only place on Lake Atitlan to offer scuba diving courses and fun dives. Day spas and delicious restaurants scatted the waterfront and create an atmosphere of enjoyment, pampering, and a go-slow attitude that you will remember for years to come.
Santa Cruz is widely considered to be a hidden gem and one of the most beautiful and worthwhile places to visit on Lake Atitlan. It is highly recommended to have flexible travel plans, as you will not want to leave!
