This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Anjuna.
Anjuna is an area in the northern region of Goa and is one of the most popular areas in Goa for backpackers to visit. It takes approximately an hour and a half to get to here from the airport or the train station depending on traffic and this can be quite expensive.
The area itself is stunning. The beach has bars scattered along the shorelines and many of these throw pretty awesome beach parties in season. Depending on your time of year also, be aware that most of the locals will swim fully covered in their clothes, although many foreign tourists do wear their bikinis.
On Wednesdays during the day, Anjuna has its popular flea market, which is a cool place to wander around and check out some of the local merchandise. Back off the beach in this area, they also have a few restaurants and cafes where you can chill out also. You will find quite a lot of yoga, and ayurvedic medicine and massage is popular here, so if that is something that interests you, you will find it here.
Hostels in Anjuna are scattered. Some are closer to the beach and others are further inland. The beach hostels in Anjuna are certainly easier to access facilities and activities from but the outer hostels in Anjuna are more quiet. Make sure you do your research and if you need to find anything, your Anjuna hostel should be able to point you in the direction of whatever you need during your stay here.
