This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Benaulim.
Benaulim is a little town right on the beach with heaps options of accommodations and delicious local food. It's an amazing place to visit in Goa -- India's smallest state. If you are just arriving to India, this place would be a good chance to start and get used to the climate and the Indian culture.
The best time to visit Benaulim is between October and March; most of the accommodations and hostels in Benaulim on the beach and tourist restaurants just get built up for this season, but also in low season you're able to find a place to stay on the main road about two kilometers from the beach. You can travel on a really low budget here -- you can get a basic double room with fan or a bungalow right on the beach for a really good price, and if you are ready to haggle a bit, you could get it even cheaper. In the main season, the prices rise, as Benaulim is well visited by tourists.
If you love the local food, you've got a big choice of different restaurants in town. If you want to save money and stay away from the tourist restaurants, it's worth it to take the walk to the main road and enjoy the local restaurants. If you want to get around the place or visit beaches nearby, it's cheap to rent a motorbike to get around or take the local buses.
The Benaulim beach is really clean and quiet, and it is the perfect place if you are looking for a break from chaotic India and need some time to calm down. At sunset time, the beach gets crowded with Indian families enjoying the sunset, and it puts the place in a really nice atmosphere. If you are planning to buy clothes or souvenirs, Benaulim is a good place to do that -- the best time to go is in the morning.
