This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Udaipur.
Udaipur is famous as the lake city in Rajasthan. Of the seven man-made lakes in the area, Lake Pichola is the most famous one, with expensive hotels and restaurants located within the lake that you can only get to by boat. For those of us who are not crazy rich, there is a boat tour you can take around the lake, which is a nice activity to see the sunset.
Just up the hill and a short distance from the edge of the lake is the City Palace. It has some beautiful architecture and paintings to explore but some of it can also be pretty bland. Don't miss the music and sculpture exhibitions upstairs if you go. For the most amazing views over the city, head up to the Monsoon Palace in a tuk tuk. It can be quite expensive. There is also a zoo next door with some local animals and a whole lot of cheeky monkeys running around the place as well.
By far the best thing to see or do in Udaipur is the cultural show at the Bagore Ki Haveli. The dancing is really quite remarkable and is bound to leave a smile on your face.
The majority of the sights in this area are with walking distance around the Lake Pichola area. Ask your Udaipur hostel for any directions around the place and where to find good restaurants that are close by.
