This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Gili Meno.
Gili Meno is one of the tiny islands that make up the Gili archipelago of Gili Air, Gili Trawangan, and Gili Meno off the coast of Lombok. You can reach this place by fastboat from Bali or taking the slow boat that locals use from Bagsal in Lombok. This can be a really exciting experience, as you are traveling on a tiny boat that seems to be rocking over with every wave and you are sitting amongst chickens, vegetables, and the goods that are being transported to the island. However, once you get there, it is an absolute paradise that you will never want to leave! With beautiful white sand, turquoise waters, and amazing corals at the bottom of the sea, it is a place that would appeal to absolutely anybody!
The three gilis have completely different characters -- Gili Trawangan is famous as a party place, Gili Air as the diving paradise, and Gili Meno as the chill-out place. And not without a reason -- as it's by far the most peaceful and underdeveloped, the island has managed to preserve its savage charm. Here, you will experience local culture on an everyday basis.
The island is tiny -- it is possible to do a full loop around it in less than two hours on foot. There are no cars here, either. Instead, you can ride one of the traditional horse carriages, which provide the only means of transportation on the island.
As for food, lovers of seafood will be spoilt here. The dining scene is mostly characterised by local eateries serving grilled fish and seafood as well as some traditional Indonesian meals.
This island that offers total escapism is a true gem with the scenery out of honeymoon brochures, the low price range of mainland Indonesia, and a lot of truly genuine local charm. You should be able to find a Gili Meno hostel to meet your needs, should you find yourself in this part of the world!
