This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Cape Clear Island.
Cape Clear Island is in a fantastic location, in the southern coast of west Ireland. It’s easy enough to reach -- you can catch a ferry from Baltimore or from Schull. If you’re on a bike, the bike goes free. Your options for hostels on Cape Clear Island are limited, so those that exist will be quite busy, especially during the summer -- book well ahead in advance.
The heritage center is a great place to start out, if you’re looking for things to do. The ruins of Dunamore Castle are great if you’re looking for a photo op. They are fairly awesome. If you like birdwatching, Cape Clear is a great place to bring your binoculars and camera. The wildlife in the area is quite diverse. The views are also simply amazing, and if it’s a warm, sunny summer day, consider taking a swim in the ocean.
There aren’t a lot of options for dining, but the pub serves the best home-cooked meals. Make sure to try their amazing and delicious food. If you don’t want to shell out money for food, make sure to do some shopping in a grocery before catching the ferry.
If you want to get the most out of your trip, consider bringing a bike along. The island of Cape Clear has much to explore, but there are other places to see. Baltimore is a great place check out, but it’s starting to see a lot of touristy traffic, so explore some of the other towns along the coast as well.
