This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Livorno.
Livorno is a very beautiful city, with great restaurants, opera, and amazing beaches around it. Livorno hostels are located in the outskirts of the city -- that is not great, as the beach is not very close. Moreover, hostels in Livorno are not cheap.
There is a good chance that you will not be able to find your hostel in Livorno very easily. You will surely need to take public transportation -- there are enough lines to make mistakes and you will not meet many people who speak English. At least get to know the numbers -– that is really helpful -- or get something to write the numbers on when asking about buses to reach your Livorno hostel.
You can go to Livorno by train or ferry. The ferry has amazing connections -- Barcelona, Palermo, Cagliari, and Bastia to name a few. The train station is very close to the center of the city and all hostels in Livorno are quite far from it. Pisa airport is quite close to Livorno -– about twenty-five kilometers -- and convenient public transportation is available.
Visit the great museums and do not miss the old buildings, which keep important moments of European history; visit the natural park, which is about ten kilometers from Livorno. Not to miss are the fortress Fortezza Nuova and the Sanctuary of Montenero. In general, there are a few nice historical sights that could be visited in a day or two; if you do not have nice weather during your stay, there is not so much to do in the city.
