This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Menaggio.
Menaggio is one of the biggest towns on the western shore of Lake Como. It has a beautiful view of Bellagio and Varenna, and from there you can easily reach a natural reserve with several hiking trails. There are two beaches, although the best beaches are to the North of Menaggio.
There is a lido that usually serves cold and hot meals. In Menaggio you can finds restaurants for any budget, and if you have a car you can go a bit out of the center to get something special.
If you are traveling on a budget, the best option would be a Menaggio hostel; your choices are extremely limited here, but there are nearby ones in Como (thirty-five kilometers to the south) and in Domaso (about twenty kilometers north). Your Menaggio hostel is part of the area's history and serves dinner at very affordable prices; you can ask at the tourist information office (which you can find in the main square) and they will direct you to your Menaggio hostel.
Menaggio is a very quiet area -- it is perfect for relaxing, getting some rest, and being in touch with nature. If you are planning on clubbing, you may want to go to Milan rather than to Lake Como.
If you stay at a Menaggio hostel, though, you will probably meet other travelers, and especially in the summer there is a warm atmosphere and dinners often end up as parties at the nearby beach (with not much joy for the neighbours, who will really appreciate if you can keep your voice low). So, go to Menaggio if you want to relax, be quiet, go hiking/kayaking/sailing, and possibly improvise parties.
