You can easily get to Echternach from Luxembourg City on public transport by taking one of the buses from the city centre. It should take you an hour to get there, and it's inexpensive. While you are in the town of Echternach itself, there is a small square that has some beautiful architectural features. Behind this is the main abbey, which is worth a look.
