We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Grand Baie.
Grand Bay is a beach destination in Mauritius and one of the most vibrant beach towns in Mauritius. It's not only a great town to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius, but is also one of the best towns to check out the night life or enjoy a nice dinner.
Grand Bay (locally written as Grand Baie), is a beach town in north Mauritius. Hostels are scarce in Mauritius, but Grand Bay is one of the few towns where you can find a hostel. If you prefer the hostel life over hotel room or apartment, you might want to do day trips to other places of interest in the north from your Grand Bay hostel, as the travel distances in Mauritius are short.
The beach is the main reason to visit Grand Bay. The white sand beaches and beautiful Turquoise that can be found here can be found only in a few other places in the world. Where some of the sea side towns in Mauritius get very quiet in the evening, remains Grand Bay one of the liveliest. Many restaurants with an international kitchen and local food stalls can be found throughout the city centre. There are also several bars and cafes where you can end the day with a drink. Arguably the best and cheapest supermarket of Mauritius can also be found in Grand Bay.
Only ten minutes from Grand Bay lies the town of Trou Aux Biches. The beach in Grand Bay may be nice, but the beach in Trou Aux Biches is much wider and more spread out. Here you'll find many palm trees. A wide range of watersports can also be done in Trou Aux Biches. It is definitely worth it to visit Trou Aux Biches for a day from Grand Bay. Your hostel in Grand Bay can help you to arrange a cab, or simply take one of the public buses.
Grand Bay is also close to Triolet. This the place to be for the annual Diwali night, when candles are lit throughout the whole town.
