This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Mazunte.
Mazunte is a small, beach town located on the pacific coast of Mexico in Oaxaca state. Mazunte is a great place to get away from it all. It offers amazing beach with rocky shore views, white sand, delicious restaurants, and inexpensive beachfront cabanas. It's the perfect place to read a book, cool off in the ocea, or try some local cuisine.
Mazunte is easily accessible from collectivo shuttles from Puerto Escondido or direct private shuttles leaving from Oaxaca city every few hours. The road from Oaxaca City can be very bumpy and many people find they require anti-nausea medication. The town is rather small and therefore the hostels in Mazunte are all within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and shops. Mazunte, however, does not offer much selection of goods, so shopping for things such as toiletries, medications, or sunscreen should be done beforehand.
Mazunte's locals offer a tour that takes you out on a boat to a few different locations to watch dolphins, sea turtles, tuna, and other marine wildlife. Afterwards, you are taken to the local reef to do some snorkeling. Once on shore, a visit to the local sea turtle conservatory is a perfect way to cap the day. The conservatory has many different species of turtles that range from small pond turtles to the gigantic sea turtles that live longer then we do.
Mazunte is a fantastic spot to get away from it all, relax, read a book, and enjoy the bright sunshine.
