Get to know Žabljak

Žabljak is the highest town on the Balkans, sitting at just under one thousand five hundred meters. It is a hub for Durmitor National Park, both in the summer (for hiking and biking) and in the winter (for skiing). There is really only one main road running through the town, so finding hostels in Žabljak won't be a problem, as most are considered central.

Žabljak is a great base for highlights in Durmitor National Park such as the popular Black Lake and Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak in the park. Black Lake is a forty-minute walk from the main bus stop in Žabljak and is a starting point for many hikes further into the park (including Bobotov Kuk). You can also drive to Black Lake to decrease hiking time. When looking for a hostel in Žabljak, check out the Žabljak hostels in the centre and close to the entrance of the park.

Additionally, Tara River Canyon is close to Žabljak. You can easily hike/bike to amazing view points of the canyon, there is even a car park with a short walk to the view point. In summer there are many tour agents in Žabljak, where you can organise a rafting trip in the canyon. Many hostels in Žabljak can help you plan and organise your trip.

After a day full of activity, you can relax in one of the handful of restaurants and cafes with a warm or cold beverage. As Žabljak is a small town, it is quiet and there isn't really any party scene. It is a place to enjoy the peace and quiet, while exploring beautiful nature surrounding Žabljak.

In winter, Žabljak hostels are limited, as many close for the season. It may be worth booking in advance if you're traveling after October. The hostels in Žabljak are mostly all centrally located, which is within walking distance to the entrance to the national park. Žabljak is a beautiful, peaceful little town making it the perfect place to relax after a day of adventure.
