This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Tivat.
Tivat is a fairly large city located at the entrance to the beautiful Kotor Bay in southwest Montenegro. The city has most amenities including an airport, port, hotels, supermarkets, post office, and tourist information centers. Tivat is only an hour's drive from the touristic, coastal town, Budva in the south, and a thirty-minute drive from the historical old town of Kotor. Tivat is a great place to base yourself for visiting the nearby Kotor Bay, which can be done either by bus, on foot, or by car; as well as for hiking trips into the surrounding mountains.
There are many accommodation options in Tivat; the most popular are hotels and guesthouses, however there are also a handful of basic Tivat hostels or guesthouses with dorm rooms. There are also a handful of campsites and autocamps situated just outside the city. Hostels in Tivat and guesthouses usually offer the most affordable inner-city accommodation. Most staff members working in the tourism industry, such as Tivat hostels, usually can speak some English or German, however a few words in Montenegrin are appreciated -- to get you started, "Hvarla" means "thank you." Most Tivat hostels include linen, towels, and Wi-Fi. There are usually also common areas within the building, including communal kitchen and sitting areas. Hot-water showers are the norm in Tivat and Montenegro as a whole. Most Tivat hostels do not include breakfast in the price, however sometimes this can be requested for an additional cost. There are, however, many cheap bakeries selling delicious local delights!
