Pokhara is the third-largest city in Nepal and the main hub for trekkers wanting to hike in and around the Annapurna Mountain range, especially the Annapurna Circuit. The quaint city is set alongside a lake where you can hire canoes or paddle boats and travel across the lake to see some of the many attractions on the other side, such as the Stupa.
Just off of the lakeside is the main street, where you will find an abundance of restaurants and shops selling souvenirs and books and cashmere -- and of course, trekking gear. Post-trekking, there are also a range of massage places where you can barter a good price for a massage, as the majority of the places are quite expensive for Nepal and will give you a way better price if you haggle.
Pokhara also has some cool adventure activities outside of trekking, if that is something that interests you. They have paragliding off the cliff face, whitewater rafting, and a range of other activities in the stores along the main street. One of the cheapest and coolest things to do in the area, however, is to get up for sunrise at the main viewpoint on top of the hill. You will need to take a car or taxi here, but the stunning views are well worth it. Just bring a jacket and get in early as there are lots of people.
The main bus station is a small way out of Pokhara's Main Street, and you will also need to get a taxi to and from here to get to your Pokhara hostel. This is a beautiful city and a great place to kick-start an adventure!
