Get to know Tauranga

Tauranga, New Zealand, is one of the five biggest cities in New Zealand, and is located in the Bay of Plenty region, on the country's North Island, stretching from Cape Runaway to Coromandel Peninsula. The coastline of the Bay of Plenty is more than two hundred fifty kilometres long and a popular destination for locals as well as international tourists.

Tauranga is the most populous town in the region; more than one hundred thirty thousand people permanently live in the coastal town that boasts the largest export port of the country. Besides trading and tourism, agriculture is important for the economy in Tauranga. The countryside surrounding the town is very fertile, and avocado and kiwifruit mainly are cultivated. The history of the town dates back to the thirteenth century when Maori settlers arrived in the bay. Tauranga has a local airport with regular flight connections from Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. There are frequent bus services connecting the major towns on the North Island.

Backpacking and tourism are important factors for the local economy, so you can find plenty of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in Tauranga, New Zealand. The accommodations are spread in the city centre. Fortunately, the supply of Tauranga, New Zealand hostels is really good and you can choose from different styles and locations in Tauranga. Even if your favourite hostel in Tauranga, New Zealand, is booked out, there will be other options nearby.
