This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Esteli.
Esteli has a great charm to it and there is much to see and do in and around the area. The downtown region itself has the large cathedral and central park as its major attractions; it is, however, also a great place to walk up and down the busy streets and soak up the local atmosphere. In this region you will find banks, supermarkets, and anything else that you may need during your stay in Esteli. Hostels in Esteli are located only a short walking distance from the center and the amenities also.
One of the common things to do during your stay in Esteli is a day trip up to Somoto to do a tour of the canyon for the day with one of the local tour companies. It is best to go with a guide; you can organize this from one of the tour operators in Esteli before you go.
You can also investigate the national parks of Tisey-Estanzuela and Miraflor. The Tisey-Estanzuela National Park is only a couple of kilometers from the main highway near the bus station. You can take a bus twice a day from the bus station right into the park to visit the cheese farm, the amazing artwork carved into the rocks for more than forty years by Alberto Gutierrez at El Jalacate, and stunning waterfall at Salto Estanzuela. You can easily spend a day or two hanging around exploring the region. The Miraflor region also has a lot to offer in stunning scenery and local communities. Again, you can find information about these places and how to get there and spend your time there in one of the local tour agencies. The people are friendly and more than happy to answer any questions that you have.
