This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Las Escobas del Venado.
Surrounded by a lush hillside, Las Escobas del Venado is home to some of the most spectacular surfing on the Azuero Peninsula – with breaking waves coming from both directions that can accommodate surfers of any skill level.
While this area is relatively undeveloped, there are some local hotels and hostels for tourists looking to experience this incredible beach experience. Hostels here will be filled with visiting surfers, so expect a younger crowd if you choose to stay in Las Escobas del Venado. However, the nearby town of Pedasí will offer a wider variety of accommodation options for travelers looking for a more upscale, private experience.
There are also more restaurant options in Pedasí, but Las Escobas del Venado offers a great opportunity to sample some simple Panamanian food just off the grey-sand beaches. Since this area is a bit off the beaten path, there are fewer tourists here, giving visitors the chance to experience real life in Panama.
The main attraction here is the beach, which is an enjoyable spot even when you are not looking to get on a surfboard. Since the area is primarily a draw for locals or watersports fans, there is not a tourist-y vibe – this beach is perfect for visitors eager to relax and unwind in the Panamanian sun while watching the pros dart in and out of the rolling waves. The hills around the beach are also fun to explore, letting guests get up close and personal with some local wildlife.
Also, the beach in Las Escobas del Venado is called Playa Venao. This is the exact same area. So you can either look for hostels in Playa Venao or in Las Escoba del Venado; same thing. Keep this in mind.
Pedasí is a quick drive north of Las Escobas del Venado, and has an airport that accommodates commercial flights. From there, buses are available to bring tourists right up to the beach, or your local hostel or hotel. Other than accommodations and a restaurant, there are very few local services in Las Escobas del Venado, so tourists are recommended to stock up on supplies before leaving Pedasí.
