This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Figueira da Foz.
Figueira da Foz is an amazing coastal city in the central area of Portugal, just two hours away from Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Figueira da Foz is well known for beautiful and clean beaches, amazing cuisine, and lovely landscapes.
During the day, you can make a visit through the city to see amazing churches, museums, and beautiful gardens. You can also visit the Santa Catarina fort, the Sotto Mayor Palace and Buarcos fortress. At night you can visit the coastal restaurants to enjoy the tasty Portuguese food -- you should definitely try the seafood! -- and have a drink at the fancy bars. If you feel lucky, you should visit the Casino Peninsular, one of the biggest in the Iberian Peninsula.
During your stay, you can take a trip to Coimbra, only forty kilometers from Figueira da Foz -– you can go by car, bus, or train (the last two options are a little bit cheaper). Coimbra is the third-biggest city in Portugal, and it's well known for being a student city with beautiful landscapes, a lot of history and an amazing vibe especially on the months between September and July (university period). If possible, try to conciliate your trip with the festival of students in Portugal, “Queima das Fitas.”
There are not so many hostels in Figueira da Foz, so in high season (especially July and August), book in advance. Figueira da Foz hostels are very simple, so don't expect luxurious accommodation –- instead, you will have a nice and clean place to stay on a low budget.
