Looking for budget stays in Brașov? This section is designed to save you time, money, and unnecessary stress. We've got insider tips to help you find affordable hostels and the cheapest places to stay in Brașov.
Brasov is a nice, charming city in Romania located in the central part of the country in the Transylvania region. This city is well known for the fortified walls around some parts of the city, the medieval gate, the beautiful city centre, and a few churches -- don't miss the St. Nicholas Church and the black church, as it is a Gothic masterpiece. Try also to find the narrowest street in all Romania and cross it. You'll enjoy a lovely view of the city from the cable car that you can find in the top of the nearest mountain -- Tamara -- and you can also hike to the top of a mountain that has huge letters with the name of the city (Brasov) like the one Hollywood has. You'll get a good walk and nice views. During winter you can visit a famous ski resort nearby -- Poiana Brasov -- but you can expect it to be a little bit crowded. There is a direct coach from the city to the resort.
It's really easy for you to travel to Brasov, as there are some coaches, but the best way to arrive and depart is by taking the train -- it's not expensive and will take you almost anywhere in Romania or the neighboring countries.
Around Brasov you can find a lot of good sights worth a visit. Ask in the hostel if they know someone who can show you the surroundings for one day -- you can have a really nice day and keep your budget low. Don't forget to mention that you want to visit Bran Castle -- the lovers of Dracula can't miss it, and Rasnov fortress -- it's better than Prejmer fortress and good for you to spend some time exploring; Sinaia Palace is a little bit further, but is still recommended.
The hostels in Brasov are simple and basic. If you're arriving by bus, try to arrange a pick-up with your hostel in Brasov -- it's not really far, but at least twenty minutes' walking with a backpack.
