Train connections apart from close distances are not very convenient. However, there are many flights from Timisoara. Do not take taxis on your own from the airport -– you may be overcharged.
Timisoara hostels are few but in different locations; there are hostels in the center, near the train station, and in the surroundings. Hostels in Timisoara are cheap but you have to be careful as some of them are closed in the winter. There are also good clubs in the center and prices are not high -- most of them do not charge cover on weekdays. If you book a hostel in the center, you will not have to pay for taxis. There are several universities so the city is full of young people.
Visit the great museums and do not miss the old buildings, like the Huniade Castle, the Millennium Church, and the Orthodox Cathedral. There are many sights in Timisoara. You can also visit Arad, which is only an hour away by train.
