This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Kriens.
Luzern-Kriens is located in the central-northern part of Switzerland, in the German-speaking canton of Luzern. It is located in a western suburb of Luzern and it lies at the foot of Mount Pilatus, making it a quiet and scenic yet central place to discover what Luzern and the neighbouring area have to offer. Your Luzern-Kriens hostel can be a great base to explore this area. The most significant attraction locally is the Schauensee Castle, built in the thirteenth century with its dramatic location right in front of some beautiful Alpine cliff faces. Nowadays, the castle serves as a cultural centre, but it is still worth a visit to admire its architecture and the surrounding nature.
However, most visitors choose Kriens because of its proximity to Luzern, a charming town that abounds with attractions and sights. The landmark of the town is the Reuss River with all its marvelous bridges. The most famous one is called Chapel Bridge, a wooden covered bridge from the fourteenth century, which is in fact the oldest covered bridge in Europe. The bridge is adjacent to the Water Tower, a fortification from around the same time, that houses a collection of paintings depicting the history of Luzern.
Once here, seeing the Old Town of Luzern is a must. Just north of Reuss, the walls of Luzern emerge on a hill above Luzern, complete with eight watchtowers, a gated tower, and a series of half-timbered houses with painted frescoes.
Those more into nature have to put Lake Luzern on their list too, with its long waterside promenade that offers romantic strolls and the chance to feed swans and befriend ducks. For the best views, take a cable car up to Mount Rigi to enjoy the sunset above the lake as well as the traditional Swiss Alpine huts that serve excellent Swiss specialties.
