Rivne, Ukraine is the gateway to visit the "Tunnel of Love." It looks as much like a fairytale as it sounds. The name may not immediately ring a bell, but you have probably seen pictures before on an online list with pictures of romantic places to visit around the world.
The Tunnel of Love is best visited in spring or summer, when the tunnel is lush and most suitable for posting pictures on social media. The word tunnel is actually misleading, as it is a five-kilometer-long line of forest that cover a rail track. There is actually an industrial train running on this track, so be careful when entering. You can walk through the entire tunnel, with the most picturesque places located approximately halfway.
The Tunnel of Love is one of the most beautiful places in Ukraine, but it is a bit tucked away in a rural area. It is possible to visit as a day trip from Lviv, but it would be a long day, and if you are traveling by public transport you would have hardly time to properly explore the tunnel before having to return. There are also organised tours from Lviv, but the prices are highly inflated. Because Rivne is between Lviv and Kiev and close to the Tunnel of Love, this is the perfect gateway. There is not much else of interest to most travelers in Rivne, but there are some monuments, restaurants, and all other facilities a traveler may need. There are a few hostels in Rivne, Ukraine; it is recommended to book a few days in advance, even in shoulder season, because Rivne, Ukraine hostels often sell out. Minibuses leave several times per hour to Klevan -- the small town where the Tunnel of Love is located -- and it takes forty-five minutes. There are no hostels in Klevan, so staying at a Rivne, Ukraine hostel is your best choice when visiting the Tunnel of Love.
