This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Conwy.
Conwy is best known for its fantastically well preserved castle and walls. Built as part of a network of castles in an attempt to subdue the Welsh by the English, the castle stands proudly atop a rocky hill. The walls include a large part of the town and provide a great area to walk through. If possible, stay within the walls for the best Conwy experience.
If staying in a Conwy hostel outside the city, prepare for a hike in and out. The landscape is quite hilly and as such tends to make the buildings spread out a bit. There are some fantastic hostels located outside, but if you have to make the trek several times a day you may find yourself wishing you stayed in.
Conwy also sits on the steps of Snowdonia National Park, and has Mount Conwy looming a few kilometers away. The hike up is quite easy and very rewarding, providing an excellent view of the town and surrounding area. Beware that the weather can change quickly, so keep an eye out for a cave or overhang to duck into to avoid the rain, which often stops just as quickly as it can start.
